Press

The Sudup and Dance promo release has had an emphatic reponse from the press so far. Check out the review from DJ Magazine opposite.

DJ Magazine said they "Love it" and will be doing a review with artwork in April, whilst the DJ BBC Collective said they’ve "Always had Soapsud down as a sort of Warpy 'Artficial Intelligence' label - and whilst you could probably still say that about Dlay - not a bad thing - you couldn't about the others so much. Good stuff".

There’s also forthcoming reviews in April from Hearing is Believing and the Irish Daily Star.

Club

It seems Sudup and Dance has also created a buzz within the dance scene with glowing feedback from the DJ and club promo release.

The responses have been resoundingly positive across the board with tracks from the album being played out on the circuit and a number of top ten DJ chartings.

Here’s a snapshot of what's being said about Sudup and Dance:

"I like Dlay tracks 1 and 2, I will present this on my radio show."

Laurent Garnier

"Some very nice beats in there. I'm going to try them out over the weekend for sure."

Nico De Ceglia (Codex, BBC Radio 1)

"The Sudup thing is wicked. I can use tracks 4-8, with the stand out for me being 7 & 8. Will be charting 8!! I used to break up my set on Saturday and got a massive cheer when it dropped. Charting track 8 - [Footwork] Sputnik O'harra in Feb/March Chart".

Chris Finke (Atomic Jam, Flux, Split)

"I really like some of the tracks especially the darker less housey ones. It’s really minimal but almost has a bit of an old school thing in there. Really nice - thank you. I’ll chart it - my fave track is the first one Minimize & Whoops."

Shelly Parker (Haywire, Structure, Play FM)

"Some nice tracks! Charted at no. 19. Favourite track: Memory, Dlay"

Afi Khan (BBC GMR, Master Floppy, Tiger Lounge)

Sudup & Dance II - Various

"This London based crew may still be peddling soap related jokes, but what is much more important is the fact that they are bringing fine technoid grooves with them. Again this is a compilation with a number of contributions by key players, with Soapsud members coming present and correct with calming yet floor satiating material. Opening cut from Dlay entitled Long Short Story just rolls out for ever, whilst Shaolin’s Fallout bounces around nicely and The Switch from Untying The Knots also hits home. Cleanse yourself in this crew’s purifying technoid fair."

Hearing Is Believing

"An excellent collection of subtle bits with enough variety to satisfy. (4 out of 5)"

Sudup & Dance - Various

"Bubblin’. So fresh so clean: Soapsud City have quietly claimed their place in the house pantheon with an original, stripped-back sound. Collecting tracks from Dlay, Shaolin, Sketchy Beats and more, this is a short but sweet collection of Detroit-tinged, bumpin’ house'n'tech. Very promising indeed. Mint track: Dlay 'Whoops'."

Ben Murphy, DJ Magazine

"If minimal Detroit tech 'n' house with the occasional bursts of old skool vibes is your bag, then add the new Sud Up & Dance compilation from London label Soapsud City to your shopping list. Its two most essential tracks come from Dlay, Memory and Whoops."

Mark Kavanagh, Irish Daily Star

"Is this from Detroit? No, it’s from West London. The album kicks off with the lush gradual builder of Minimize from Dlay, which is followed by the bouncing bassline of Memory. Shaoline comes with Ketsamine next, which as the name suggests, is very wonky, off-kilter techno. Sketchy Beats’ track Carry Toffee starts out equally as off-beat but works its way to more straight-up techno with great keyboard noises and some strange squeaks. Dlay returns with his more stripped-back sound and bouncy style on Simply Because and Whoops, before more off-kilter techno from Shaoline on The Clear Soup. The excellently names Sputnik O’Hara finishes things off in a rave style with the electro breaks-tinged Footwork. It’s interesting stuff which would work well as well in the clubs as it would in a minging old warehouse. 8/10"
